North Tour

This is my last blog about our holiday to Lanzarote and it is about the last day trip that we did while there. The trip was to the north part of the island and massively centred around Cesar Manrique; the south island tour also featured him as well. He was hugely influential in such a positive manner to the island, the world needs more people like him in it so that humans don’t continue to destroy this planet.

Not having advertising around the island is a massive factor in how everyone sees the island and that is due to him. Also the fact that there is no high rise buildings. The more that I learnt about him the more I was impressed and in awe at what he had done.

First stop of the day was to the very centre of the island and the Monumento al Campesino. Cesar Manrique made this statue in honour of the farmers of the island. We got to spend some time around the statue and also the museum right beside it.

An extra to the tour but 100% worth it was a visit to the Cesar Manrique Foundation which is now a museum but used to be his house.

There was so much more to it than what my photos show but it is hard to do justice to the place.

We also visited LagOmar which is famously known as the former residence of Omar Sharif though he didn’t own it for very long so almost a shame that is what is remembered by everyone. Place looked like something out of a Bond film.

There was a visit to an Aloe Vera plantation and a talk from one of the staff members there on all the benefits of the plant. There is a lot! Also got to eat a tiny bit ……. won’t be doing that again.

Final stop was to Jameos del Aqua and a walk through some of the lava tunnels.

Took some photos when in the lava tunnel, didn’t come out that well but wanted to keep a couple to give an idea of the place.

The pool area on the other side of the tunnel we walked through just looked like paradise.
