Got back yesterday from a lovely weekend in York, we drove down on Friday and were really lucky with the time that we made. Was expecting to be there a lot later but luckily Kat managed to get away from work a little bit earlier and we made very good time.
First time using AirBnB for accommodation, found it quite difficult to begin with. Think part of that was just arriving after a long drive and brain still in overdrive with that plus somewhere new. Just felt a bit odd being in someone else’s house but not there to visit them, not sure if I would do it again, however after a cup of tea and some time started to feel better. It was a lovely room , plus Harry Potter themed which was the whole reason why I booked it, and very good location. Didn’t need to use the car at all on Saturday which was great.
Weather wise we couldn’t have asked for better! What we had both been really wanting was cold, clear and sunny which is exactly what we got. Perfect.
On Saturday morning we decided to walk a bit of the city walls and use the opportunity to take lots of photos. Love walking the walls of York being able to see the Minister and historic York, was hard not to take a photo pretty much after every step.
Amazing autumnal colours all around the city, great time of year to explore the place.
This photo was taken as we came off the city walls going down a narrow stair case. Was just a point and shoot from waist height but actually think the effect is pretty cool.
After the city walls and the outside of the Minister we entered the Shambles. If you haven’t been would say it is a life time must see, absolutely love walking around the narrow streets and just soaking up the atmosphere. Doesn’t take much to take a step back in time.
Wasn’t the opportunity this time but at some point I would love to do a ghost tour in York, not many places I would be interested but here is defo one of them.
A Harry Potter Shop! The queues for this shop on Saturday were massive but we were lucky to join a small queue on Sunday and get the chance to go in here. Very hard not to buy everything but we came out with a mug each for our respective houses.
Sunday was a bit of walk around the place and then a visit to Yorvik, somewhere that both of us had been years ago and were looking forward to going together. Really enjoyed it and the smell was just the same.
Overall had a great time and very glad that decided to go to York for Kat’s birthday weekend. Lots of reasons to return!
